If you’ve been on the Facebook app recently you may have noticed the latest way you can share your life on the social platform, and it’s something you’ll have seen, and possibly used, before.
Facebook Stories is the most recent feature to roll out on the company’s main app. It’s a familiar concept and has been used on other Facebook-owned services such as Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp (although WhatsApp has now brought back its original status feature).
The social platform’s newest addition, although recognisable, will look different, and we’re sharing what you need to know before trying it out.
You may not be able to see it
The Stories feature has been available from 28th March, however not all of us are receiving it. To check if you’re the lucky one, we suggest closing out of the app and upgrading, if you haven’t already, before logging back in again. If this still doesn’t work, it’ll be a matter of playing the waiting game.
Viewing Facebook Stories
By scrolling to the top of your feed, you’ll be able to view your friend’s Stories and create your own, or you can swipe right from any page.
Same old Story
It is very simple to post an update; just think Snapchat and Instagram. Pressing and holding the circular button to record your content and then post it for your friends to see. They will be live for 24 hours before disappearing, sound familiar?
Filters filters filters
One of the more exciting elements of Facebook Stories is the filters that are available. Although this is similar to how Snapchat operates, Instagram allows users to only add stickers to an image/video that has been taken whereas Facebook allows users to include a filter or border before recording.
To access the filters and effects, either swipe up or tap on the magic wand at the bottom left-hand corner and have fun!
A whole 20 seconds
Facebook Stories gives a whopping 20 seconds of recording time compared to Snapchat’s measly 10, and Instagram’s 15 seconds. Think of all the possibilities that 5 seconds gives you.
Saving Stories
Saving videos to your phone is as straightforward as tapping the down arrow to save it to your camera roll. You can also share your video with friends, send it as a message, or add it to your Story.
Replaying direct stories
If you receive a Story from a friend, you’ll have the option to view it twice before it disappears for good.
